Grand Millennium Auckland Green Machine installation
We are very exited about the new installation at the Millenium Hotel, where five kitchens are sourcing their food waste to go through the Green Machine Flagship food waste processor.
TGM’s Frank Resink prepares the machine for install.
On the EMISSION side, the hotel will save itself about 60 percent. That may still feel like an abstract concept, as it clearly does for most of us, but – besides extreme weather events – the practical consequences are looming. This comes in the form of:
*the carrot; the Millennium will be able to claim carbon credits via the Emissions Trading Scheme, which is being put together by the Government and will be implemented in the next few years. At the time of writing this, carbon credits are trading at NZ $ 67.00 per metric ton of food waste.
*And the stick; food waste laws are being tightened right now with severe financial and operational consequences by 2025 for any commercial food waste producer regarding separation and emissions.
And another carrot! On the MONEY SAVING side, the Grand Millennium is going to save itself 80 percent in food waste volume which translates to lesser movements to the waste pickup point, and a reduction in pickup fees as 10 bins will be reduced to only 2 bins.
This volume reduction also saves significantly in emissions relating to food waste transport which will be the next issue: (https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/131678424/councils-are-transporting-food-scraps-hundreds-of-kilometres-as-nz-tries-to-avoid-dumping-350000-tonnes-of-food-waste-into-landfills-each-year.)
