What about the leftover 20 %?

The leftover dry pulp is perfectly suitable for further composting, although composting in itself generates greenhouse gas again.
However, it is also possible to ferment the pulp. Also known as Bokashi Composting, the food waste is anaerobically (no oxygen) kept in a closed container/bin with a small amount of Bokashi Culture. This organic mixture goes to work and transforms the food waste into the best possible soil conditioner, full of nutrients and natural nitrogen.

The Green Machine offers culture for large scale Bokashi composting (as above) or for composting-in-the-bag, which uses a new organic culture developed by emnz.co.nz, allowing the foodwaste to be fermented straight out of the machine in soil conditioner bags to be shared with your local community.
